Miss Turkey 2017 loses crown hours after she won the pageant

The winner of Miss Turkey 2017 was on Friday stripped of her crown hours after winning the competition over a controversial tweet.

Itir Esen,18, won the competition in Istanbul on Thursday night and was meant to represent the country in the Miss World competition in China.

Hours later, organisers of the competition forced her to hand back her crown after it emerged she tweeted about a 2016 failed coup aimed at ousting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In the already deleted tweet, Esen was said to have compared the bloodshed in her menstrual cycle with that of the 249 people who lost their lives during the failed coup that are now celebrated in Turkey as martyrs.

She wrote:"To celebrate July 15 Martyr's Day, I began the morning by getting my period. I am celebrating the day by bleeding representing the martyrs blood,"

The organisers who saw the tweet after the beauty contest’s results were announced were forced to hold an hours-long meeting to reach a conclusion on the controversial tweet.

In a statement later released by Can Sandikcioglu, the head of Miss Turkey, he confirmed the tweet was posted by Esen.

“The Miss Turkey organisation, whose objective is to promote Turkey in the world and to contribute to its image, cannot accept such a post,” he announced.

Esen’s title was handed to Asli Sumen, who came second and who will now represent Turkey in the Miss World contest in China on November 18.

Taking to Instagram, Esen said her post was not politically motivated.

“I want to say that as an 18-year-old girl, I had no political aims while sharing this post,” she wrote, saying that she only shared her “innocent thoughts during a sensitive time.”

“My family raised me by teaching to respect our homeland and nation. I do not have a character that could show disrespect to our martyrs,” she said.

Arsenal head coach, Arsene Wenger, has urged Nigerian youngster, Alex Iwobi, to add more goals and assists to his game and improve, as he feels the future is bright for the winger, if only he keeps his focus and mentality intact.

Iwobi, since his promotion from the club’s academy has been an integral part of the team, but has scored a miserly five goals in 41 English Premier League games, a situation Wenger doesn't want to see continue for the 21 year old.

“I like the fact that he can play in tight areas, that he turns the game forwards, that he’s very mobile," Wenger told the club’s website.

“We forget sometimes that Alex is still a very young player and that there’s a lot more to come from him.

“There must be a lot more to come from him because he has more personality in the game now.

Peter and Paul Okoye have been leaving telling posts on social media that hints at a breakup of their group P-Square but they have not come out to confirm anything.

However, Peter's recent post comes close to a confirmation. In Snapchat video, Peter revealed he was in Philadelphia for a solo show - without his brother.

19 year old boy shoots his mum dead after dispute over puppy

A Michigan teenager, Andrew David Willson, 19, shot his mother dead few hours after she told him he couldn't keep a puppy he brought home a few weeks earlier, police said.

Willson was arraigned Monday on one count each of murder and felony firearm possession.

Magistrate Mark Blumer denied bond for Willson, who has been in police custody since Friday.

Andrew Willson called police shortly before 7 a.m. Friday and lied that he came home from a drive to find his mother had been murdered, an Ingham County (Mich.) Sheriff's detective told the judge in a hearing that led to charges against the teen.

Lisa Marie Willson, 51, was found dead in a bedroom of her home near Williamston, Mich., in Wheatfield Township, police said. She was shot once in the back of the head.

Investigators determined that no one besides her and her son had been inside the house the night of the killing, Detective Charles Buckland testified.

Andrew Willson talked to his mother about the puppy Thursday evening, and she told him he would have to take the dog to his father's home, Buckland testified.

The teen told detectives that in the overnight hours he removed a .22 Magnum rifle from a locked cabinet, then went into his mother's room and shot her in the back of the head as she slept, Buckland said.

He then drove around back roads for a while before discarding the rifle. Police recovered the weapon, which had a spent shell casing and a live round in it.

Dept. of Children and Family services file court case to determine if baby Dream is safe with her parents, Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna

The L.A. County Dept. of Children and Family Services (DCFS ) is reportedly concerned about the well-being of Blac Chyna and Rob K.'s daughter, Dream Kardashian.

DCFS were so worried about the baby's well being that they went to L.A. County Dependency Court, so that a judge can determine if baby Dream is safe with her parents, who seem to be having a lot of domestic problems publicly.

According to TMZ, DCFS opened an investigation involving Chyna's alleged drug use, which they say took place way before Rob and Chyna broke up.

Kim Jong-un’s wife, Ri Sol-ju, makes rare public appearance at gala banquet to celebrate nuclear tests

Kim Jong-un’s wife has made a rare public appearance alongside the North Korean leader at a celebration of the pariah state’s advancing nuclear capabilities.

Ri Sol-ju was photographed at a gala banquet for the engineers who conducted country’s most powerful nuclear test to date last Sunday. The celebration is believed to have taken play at the People's Theatre in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.

The dictator’s wife has barely been seen in public in recent years, prompting speculation she may have given birth to the couple’s third child recently.



Kim, 33, broke with tradition when he was first appeared in public with Ri in 2012 and since then North Korean media has referred to her has his wife. Neither Mr Kim’s grandfather, Kim Il-sung, nor father, Kim Jong-il, were ever photographed with their wives or partners in public.

Ri and Kim are reported to have met around 2010 when she was a member of the country’s Unhasu orchestra. The 27-year-old First Lady of the impoverished state is said to have a penchant for luxury goods and was seeen in 2012 with a Dior handbag reportedly worth over £1,000.



The couple has two children, whose genders are unknown. It is unusual for North Koreans to have more than two children, but Kim may have felt pressure to have a third if the first two were girls.
