Nicole Chilaka-Ukpo, a German woman married to a Nigerian man, apologized to black women for the injustice done against them and for being made to feel like they were inferior to women of other races. She said women of other races try everything to look like black women, yet black women have been taught to dislike the way they are

She went on to extol the physical qualities of black women and referred to them as "the first women to walk the earth" and from her other women "arose".

She wrote:

dear black queen
i know we have done you wrong, done you wrong so many times, on so many levels, abused and oppressed, then and now, in shackles then, in mental bondage now, we have done you wrong, we have failed you. failed to protect you, failed to honour you, failed to give you credit, failed to praise you for who you are. but instead we glorify every copy but you. we glorify big lips, curvy bodys, curly/kinky hair and your braiding arts, the way you talk and walk, we glorify all that on everybody else BUT YOU.
but no more.
we see you.
your hair that defines gravity,
your skin that absorbs the sunlight and glows from within, your features that often leave other women jealous running from the tanning bed to the next available plastic surgeon, to get just a tiny bit of what you are naturally blessed with. we see you, you carry the dna of humanity, you were the first woman to walk earth, and we all arose from
you.
you have been humilated for everything you are, but you will eventually be celebrated again, for everything you have become.
dear black queen,
no matter how light, no matter how dark your skin is, you are perfectly made.
rise black queen, rise ??
and with you, the black nation will arise again ??

Proscription of Shiites movement is ‘immoral and illegal – Femi Falana

Femi Falana condemned the Nigerian government's plan to proscribe the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shi'ites, following a court order received on Friday.

According to the human rights activist and lawyer to the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, the proscription which he described as ‘immoral and illegal’ was planned by the Sunni Muslims occupying public offices.

Recounting how he secured an Appeal Court judgment on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari and his defunct political party, All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) after violent attacks by the police on Nigerians protesting in Kano against the alleged rigging of the 2003 General Elections, Femi Falana stated that the justices of the Court of Appeal unanimously held that the rights of Nigerians to protest against the policies of the government was part of the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution. He further disclosed that the court declared that police permit for rallies was illegal and unconstitutional.

He concluded by stating that the proscription of the IMN will not stand, as the fundamental right of the Shiites to freedom of religion is constitutionally guaranteed.

The statement reads;

On The Immoral And Illegal Proscription Of IMN

The IMN was proscribed by the Kaduna State government in 2016. The proscription was gazetted. But IMN has continued to operate in defiance of the proscription.

IPOB was proscribed in 2017 by the Buhari regime via an ex parte order issued by the federal high court. In line with the court order, the proscription was gazetted. But IPOB has continued to operate in spite of the proscription.

However, in a desperate bid to prevent the Shiites from demanding for the release of their detained leader, Elzakzaky and his wife, from the custody of the State Security Service the Buhari administration has proscribed the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

Since there are millions of Shiites who belong to the IMN the federal government will soon realise that it has merely driven the body underground.

In 2003, General Buhari and other members of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party held a rally in Kano to protest the rigging of the 2003 General Election by the Olusegun Obasanjo regime.

The rally was violently attacked by the Police on the ground that the ANPP leaders did not obtain police permit.

On the instructions of General Buhari and other the ANPP leaders, I challenged the disruption of the rally and the legal validity of police permit for rallies and political meetings at the federal high court.

The case was won by the ANPP. Apart from condemning the violent disruption of the rally by the Police, the Court declared that police permit for rallies was illegal and unconstitutional.

The appeal filed against the judgment by the Police was dismissed by the Court of Appeal.

In fact, the Justices of the Court of Appeal unanimously held that the right of Nigerians to protest against the policies of the government is part of the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution.

Therefore, the proscription of the IMN for the demonstrations of the Shiites against the disobedience of court orders by the Buhari regime is immoral and illegal in every material particular.

It is particularly opportunistic on the part of the Sunnis occupying public offices to use the instrumentality of the State to liquidate the Shiites.

The illegal proscription of the IMN should be withdrawn. It will not stand as the fundamental right of the Shiites to freedom of religion is constitutionally guaranteed.

Femi Falana SAN.

Court in Morocco sentences two Dutch citizens to death over the accidental killing of a medical student in 2017

A Moroccan court has sentenced to death two Dutch citizens over the accidental killing of a medical student in 2017.

Two years ago Edwin Gabriel Robles Martinez and Shardyone Girigorio Semerel allegedly opened fire on a cafe in the tourist hub of Marrakech. They had apparently been aiming at the cafe’s owner, but instead killed the student and wounded two other people, local media reported.

At the time local officials said the shooting was a “settling of accounts” that was “directly linked to a criminal network which has ramifications in some European countries”. On Friday a court sentenced to jail 15 other suspects in the same case, handing them terms ranging between three and 20 years for setting up a “criminal gang”, lawyer Abdellatif Htitech told AFP.

A spokeswoman for the foreign ministry in the Netherlands told AFP that the Dutch embassy “is in direct contact with the lawyer”, without giving further details. Asked if the Netherlands would intervene, Annemijn van den Broek said it was up to those convicted to decide whether or not to appeal. But she added that the Netherlands is opposed to the death penalty.

Morocco which last issued a death sentence earlier this month against three Islamic State group supporters over the beheadings of two Scandinavian women tourists has had a de facto freeze on executions since 1993.

Nigerian student drowns in UK's River Thames

A 23-year-old UK-based Nigerian student identified as Jonathan Adebanjo, drowned in River Thames on Tuesday evening while swimming with friends at Shadwell Basin.

Jonathan was out to swim with his friends in the river, after the city was hit by a scorching heat wave. The Nigerian art student was one of three people who drowned in the Thames in three hours, after a 47-year-old swimmer died in Kingston and another person vanished in the water at Waterloo Bridge.

The deceased's heartbroken family are now warning Londoners not to go to unsupervised waters. His sister Tundun, 22, said:

“He wasn’t the only person that disappeared on that day ... we need to put a warning out there to be careful. It’s easy to think nothing bad can happen because the sun is out but there’s still a risk, and it’s very evident after what happened to Jonathan.”

She added: “When they were fishing his body out, there were still kids jumping in ... people have seen it in the news, they’ve seen the risk and they’re still doing it.”

Adebanjo was due to enter his final year at Camberwell College of Arts, part of the University of the Arts London, before the sad incident occurred.

Hours after Tacha got back into the house with Seyi following their fake eviction on Sunday, she had a heart-to-heart conversation with Mike over their stand-off on Saturday.

We reported earlier that after Tacha got back into the house, Mike told her that a part of him and other housemates were excited that she left. He added that he hopes that all that happened taught her to be humble.

Tacha before you left, I am just going to keep it 100% . I am not going to lie. I did not like your energy at all. Not one bit. It was completely unacceptable in my eyes and I feel like when you did leave, a part of me was actually elated. I feel like some of the energy that you carry around here was only going to affect you and I hope that this little break that you've had and you being back here has humbled you in some shape or form because I am not going to lie, every can confirm that we felt a certain way when you walked out and you being back now, I am not going to lie, its a surprise and I hope that you being here we can go on and have some better time and no more face mask'' he said

However during their private conversation which ended up in apologies from both sides, Tacha told Mike that it's quite unfair for him to ask her to become another person. Tacha recounted some challenges that made her become who she is perceived to be, but promised to become a better person. She also apologized to Mike for disrespecting him.

Car accident reveals Catholic Priest has been stealing church offering

A car accident in which a Catholic Priest fractured his hip, revealed that he has been stealing church offering to the tune of $95,000.

When emergency workers responded to the accident in a California town last month, they saw bags of cash containing $18,305.86 allegedly stolen from the church in Father Oscar Diaz’s car. Subsequent investigation into the theft, revealed that Fr. Diaz had in his office and home, collection bags from Resurrection Parish totaling more than $95,000.

“There is also evidence that money was stolen in a variety of ways from each of the parishes where he had served as pastor. I am deeply grieved that this has happened and am deeply saddened that the parishes he was sent to serve have been harmed,” Bishop Robert F. Vasa wrote in his July 22 press release.

“The full extent of the theft is not known and may never be fully known but the Diocese is committed to determining as fully as possible the extent of the theft from each of these parishes. Once such determinations are made it is the goal of the Diocese to make restitution to the parishes.”

The Catholic Priest has now been suspended from the Diocese of Santa Rosa as announced on July 22, and he has been the subject of a police investigation.

Fr. Diaz had been a priest for 25 years, and it was gathered that he told the emergency responders at the time of the crash that the bags of cash were his salary. A further probe revealed that Diaz had also deposited a number of checks made out to parishes into his personal bank account. He has also admitted to stealing the church collection bags for some time.

“There is also evidence that money was stolen in a variety of ways from each of the Parishes where he had served as pastor,” he added, saying he was “deeply grieved” and “saddened” by the “prolonged history of theft.”

“Father Oscar admitted that he had taken the Collection bags and had been doing so for some time,” the bishop said in another letter, saying Diaz had read and approved the church’s statements about the thefts.

“I expressed to him my deep sadness, anger and dismay,” the bishop wrote, insisting he was “determined” to prosecute.

But police are reluctant to pursue the case, the diocese claims.

“After an initial investigation and several interviews, the police determined that the protocols surrounding collection accounting would make it difficult to arrive at sufficient proof of theft to pursue criminal prosecution,” Vasa told parishioners.

Vasa added that the diocese was not planning to pursue criminal prosecution at this time, because of the cost involved.
