Is it OK to leave your 3-day-old baby at home to go party? Instagram users debate after Shay Mitchell went to Drake's party only days after welcoming her child

Is it ever OK to leave your 3 day old baby at home to go party?

This debate arose after Shay Mitchell was shamed for attending Drake’s birthday last week only three days after giving birth to her baby girl.

Drake celebrated his 33rd birthday on October 24 and invited his celebrity friends to his lavish party. Pretty Little Liar actress, Shay Mitchell was one of those in attendance.

But fans felt it was inappropriate because she had announced only three days prior that she welcomed a baby. Shay received a hefty amount of backlash as a result.

"You partied three days after her birth...no respect," one Instagram user said to Shay.

Shay replied the mommy shamers in a now-deleted video posted to her Instagram Story. She explained that, although she posted the announcement photo three days prior to partying with Drake and other celebrities, that wasn’t the actual day she welcomed her daughter to the world.

She said: "I haven’t been really checking my comments that often, but apparently, people are really upset that I left three days after having a kid to go out and party."

"It wasn’t three days and she was with [my dog] Angel, so…" she joked.

She later took to Twitter to make it clear that she was joking about the child being under the care of her dog Angel.

In spite of her explanation, the debate is still going on.

Now the question is, is it OK to leave your newborn baby at home to go and party? Share your thoughts.

Atiku and his party are challenging the September 11 judgment of the Justice Mohammed Garba-led Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal which affirmed President Buhari’s victory at the polls. The appeals hearing has generated some controversies especially due to the silence of the Supreme Court on the justices that would constitute the panel, with the Coalition of United Progressives Party (CUPP) demanding the use of seniority in selecting them.

A senior member of Atiku’s legal team, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), said they considered it strange that as at yesterday, the appellants still did not know those that would constitute the panel. On his part, Dr Alex Izinyon (SAN), a top member of President Buhari’s legal team said the team is not particularly interested in knowing beforehand the justices of the court that would constitute the panel to hear the appeals.

The hearing is coming over a month after Atiku and his party, on September 23, filed 66 grounds of appeal before the apex court to challenge the judgment of the tribunal.

West Ham's Angelo Ogbonna explains why he rejected Nigeria to play for Italy

West Ham of England and Italian national team defender, Angelo Ogbonna, has revealed reasons he chose to represent Italy instead of Nigeria.

The 31-year-old Ogbonna has 13 caps for Italy and represented the country at two major tournaments but decided that representing Italy was a better option than Nigeria..

Born in Cassino to Nigerian parents who are both from Owerri West in Imo State, Ogbonna's parents emigrated from the West African to Italy in the 1980s, before the player himself was born, settling in the town of Cassino in the southern province of Frosinone.

Ogbonna made his debut for Italy's senior national team in a friendly against Poland in November 2011, then played his first senior match for Italy when he started in a World Cup qualifier vs Bulgaria in September 2012.

Sharing his view on racism and why he opted to represent Nigeria, Ogbonna told West Ham's official website : '

"For me, I’m very, very proud to be a black man in 2019,”.
“People can talk about a lot of things, and be racist, but you must understand that you cannot change your destiny." Ogbonna said.

“There is a lot of ignorance, racism and discrimination, whatever you want to call it. In Italy, there a lot of issues, both racial and regional, but these people are just trying to find excuses and to blame someone for not being good enough themselves. They just want to put you down.

“As black people, we are held back by our past, because in our past we were slaves and that can never be forgotten and never leave our minds. However, actions can be taken to change things.

“I grew up with Nigerian parents, but I chose to play for the Italian national team because I felt that was right.

“Whether you are black, Asian or whatever, you should be proud. I always say, we should be focused on the important things, which are not black or white. We are the same people. We all laugh and we all cry. For me, there is no difference.”

Ogbonna, also revealed that he has not forgotten his own heritage.

“Of course, African culture and Italian culture are different, when you compare them,” he continued. “And then you have Nigerian culture and English culture, which are different but related because Nigeria used to be a British colony.

“I was brought up with two different cultures, African and European, and I think I am totally open and I am always looking to learn more about other cultures.

“For example, I went with my family to Japan this summer, and then to China with the squad for the Premier League Asia Trophy, and I was so impressed with the Asian culture.

“There are lots of interesting things to know about the world.”

Alleged rights violation: Deji Adeyanju petitions US govt, seeks visa ban for Cross Rivers state governor, Ben Ayade

Deji Adeyanju, leader of civil society organisation, Concerned Nigerians, has asked the United States Embassy in Nigeria to impose visa ban on Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, over the illegal arrest and detention of Nigerian journalists, Agba Jalingo and Joseph Odok.

In a letter addressed to the embassy and signed by Adeyanju, the group said it believes that the illegal arrest and detention of Jalingo and Odok shouldn’t happen in a democracy. Both journalist have been in detention for allegedly writing articles against the governor.

Part of the petition letter signed by Deji Adeyanju reads

“This trend of despotism without consequences will only aggravate the worsening human rights condition in the country. We write to call the attention of the United States Embassy in Nigeria to the unabashed clampdown on press freedom and freedom of expression in Cross River State.

Governor Ben Ayade has declared war on press freedom and free speech in the state by randomly harassing, arresting and incarcerating activists and journalists on fallacious charges to abet his repression and persecution agenda.

“We therefore beseech you to please look into these human rights violations going on in Cross River State and impose visa restrictions on Governor Ayade and all members of his family.

“We trust that the United States Government will demonstrate to Nigerians, once again, as was done to those that undermined Nigeria’s electoral and democratic process in the 2019 general elections, that it is strongly opposed to human rights violations, acts of injustice and undemocratic practices by persons in positions of power in Nigeria.”

The group in another petition to the National Human Rights Commission, urged the agency to commence investigation into the growing clampdown on press freedom and freedom of expression in Cross River State.

Supreme Court strikes out another appeal against President Buhari’s election

The Supreme Court on Monday, October 28th struck out a fresh suit filed by the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and it’s presidential candidate, Ambrose Owuru, challenging the declaration of President Buhari as the winner of the February 23rd presidential election.

The apex court bowed to hear the appeal afresh following protest by the party that the court’s earlier decision which dismissed the appeal was based on a technicality rather than on merits of the law.

The apex court struck out the appeal following the dramatic withdrawal of an application praying for the restoration of the appeal to be heard afresh. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola who led four other Justices in a short ruling struck out the application. Ariwoola in the ruling agreed that the application of the appellants had been caught up by section 285 of the 1999 constitution and as such no longer has a life to maintain it.

He, however, declined to award cost against the appellants as demanded by counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Yunus Usman SAN and that of the All Progressives Congress APC Yakubu Maikyau SAN. Owuru and HDP had sought leave of the court to allow them to bring back their appeal to which had been struck due to errors of filling two notices of appeal in respect of one matter and against the provisions of the law.

When the matter came up on Monday, the attention of counsel to the appellants Sunday Ezema was drawn to section 285 (7) of the 1999 constitution and was asked whether the appeal has not become statute-barred. Although the counsel initially insisted the appeal can still be heard, he, however, made a dramatic u-turn and applied for withdrawal of the application. Buhari’s counsel Wole Olanipekun, SAN, did not ask for cost against the two appellants.

Olanipekun had objected to the application of the appellants to hear their appeal afresh because it was statute-barred. He argued that the appellants were not fair to the court by engaging it ‘in a nonjusticiable application that will serve no purpose other than wasting precious time of the court. The position was adopted by counsel to INEC and APC but with demand for substantial cost against the appellants for wasting the time of the court with the frivolous application.

HDP had filed a fresh motion to challenge the way and manners its appeal against President Buhari’s election was determined and struck out on what it termed technicality rather than the merit of law. The party in the new motion had asked the apex court to reverse itself in the ruling delivered on October 3 and restore the appeal for a fresh hearing on merit rather than on technicality of filing two notices of appeal together in one matter.

In the fresh motion on notice brought pursuant to order 8 rule 2 of the Supreme Court Rules and sections 6 and 36 of the 1999 constitution as well as section 22 of the Supreme Court Act, the party and Owuru, claimed that the judgment delivered by Justice Mary Peter Odili in favour of Buhari was invalid on the ground that it was based on technicalities of law rather than merit and justice. The motion filed by Mr. Chukwunonyerem Njoku on behalf of the appellants pleaded with the court to restore their appeal for a fresh hearing.

The HDP and its candidate maintained that the striking out of their appeal on the technical ground was without compliance with the mandatory procedure of law. The apex court had on Oct. 3 struck out the HDP’s appeal because more than one notice of appeal was filed in the same appeal contrary to the provisions of law. Justice Odili who delivered the verdict had also held that Owuru and HDP failed to appeal against the ruling delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on August 22 which struck out their petition based on the lack of jurisdiction.

“The two notices of appeal filed by the appellants and jointly utilised is a procedure not backed by law and cannot be used. Rather the appellants have come here to tackle the decision on the merits which the court below handled out of the abundance of caution”, she said In their petition at the tribunal, they had prayed for nullification of the February 23 election on the ground that its shift from Feb. 16 by INEC to Feb. 23 was not in compliance with any law and as such a nullity.

The two appellants claimed that a referendum election was conducted by Nigerians on Feb. I6 and won by them with over 50 million voice votes and that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) should be ordered to inaugurate them as President of Nigeria based on the referendum election results.

Jeff Bezos reclaims world’s richest man title, few hours after losing to Bill Gates

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, has reclaimed the World's Richest Man title few hours after losing the spot to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

Bezos who ended Gates' 24-year run as world's richest man in 2018 and became the first man on earth with a net worth of $160 billion, lost the spot on Thursday October 24, after Amazon's lacklustre Q3 results resulted in him losing nearly $7 billion in stock value. Amazon shares fell 7 per cent in after-hours trading.

He returned to the top position at the end of Friday’s markets. His shares fell by just 1% to $1,760.78, putting his net worth at $109.9 billion. Bill Gates is currently worth $105.8 billion.

Bezos’ brief slip on Thursday wasn’t entirely due to his Amazon shares falling as he would never have lost the No. 1 spot if he and ex wife, MacKenzie Bezos hadn’t divorced.

49-year-old MacKenzie received a quarter of their Amazon holdings in July. With a net worth of $32.7 billion, she is among the top 20 wealthiest people in the world.
