Mariah Carey becomes first artist in history to have a number one song in four different decades

After topping the charts for the last few weeks with her trademark holiday hit, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," Mariah will remain number one for another week and that will officially make her the first artist in history to have a number one song in four different decades.

The 49-year-old singer on Monday became the first-ever performer to score singles that hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list over four decades - the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.

The song's number one status for the third consecutive week comes for the week of January 4, 2020, making her the first performer of the decade to lead the chart, Billboard said Monday.

The Grammy-winning singer first released the Christmas Classic in 1994 on her album Merry Christmas, and re-released it this year with an updated video to coincide with its 25th anniversary.

25 years after its release, the song's path to the top spot is the longest in the history of the chart.

It hit the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 for the weeks of December 21 and December 28, and also set holiday streaming records, according to Billboard.

With the number one hit, Mariah surpassed a list of artists who had past achieved the feat in three decades: Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Usher.

Carey has now racked up 19 number one hits over the course of her career, garnering her first number one hit with Vision of Love in August of 1990, just eight months short of another decade in the 1980s. Carey has also had 10 songs to remain at number one for three or more weeks - surpassing The Beatles and Rihanna in another record-setting feat - according to the outlet.
