Broadway star, Nick Cordero has leg amputated due to Coronavirus complications
Broadway star, Nick Cordero is recovering after having his right leg amputated following complications with Coronavirus,
The Tony Award-nominated star, 41, was initially diagnosed with pneumonia, before testing positive for Coronavirus two weeks ago.
On Saturday, Nick's wife Amanda Kloots explained on her Instagram Story that she and her husband had received “difficult news”.
“Saturday was day 18 of him being sedated in the intensive care unit, Kloots told her social media followers. While hospitalized, he started having clotting issues on his right leg, and could not get blood down to his toes. The blood thinners he got to fix the clotting issues were affecting his blood pressure and causing internal bleeding in his intestines,” Kloots said.
“We took him off blood thinners but that again was going to cause some clotting in the right leg, so the right leg will be amputated today,” Kloots said.
She later confirmed at night that her husband underwent the amputation and “made it through”.
“He made it through the surgery, which is really big,” Kloots said. “They’re taking him back to the room to recover and rest for the rest of the night, so hopefully he’ll just kind of relax and rest.”
The Tony-nominated actor, who is best known for his work in Broadway productions of Waitress and Bullets Over Broadway, is currently hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he lives with his family.
